In 1870 George Garvin Brown created Old Forester on Louisville, KY’s famous whiskey row. In honor of that milestone year in bourbon history, we have crafted a tribute – Old Forester 1870 Original Batch – the first craft expression in the Old Forester Whiskey Row Series. Old Forester 1870 Original Batch echoes George Garvin Brown’s original 1870 batching process. Back then, Brown batched barrels obtained from three distilleries to create a consistent flavor profile. To emulate that process today, we also select barrels from three warehouses, each barrel originating from a different day of production, with a different entry proof and a different age profile. The three expressions of Old Forester are then batched together to craft Old Forester 1870 Original Batch. This 90-proof bourbon will be minimally filtered, to honor the processes available to George Garvin Brown at that time.…

Im a major OF fan. The 1920 1897 and Sig100 are first class whiskeys imo. This is a lower verification take on the equation giving recognition to legacy with the barrel mixing. Poured perfect nose is phenomenal. Candy apple cherry pie with the mixture latticed over the top caramel and prepared oak. Has the trademark varnish note I appreciate. Sense of taste is substantial portion of nose characteristics in addition to some rye zest kick without the additional warmth and show of the higher confirmation making it increasingly available. Experienced whiskey consumers can even now get locally available as the flavors are powerful profound and exceptionally fulfilling. Incredible harmony between the sweet dull fruity caramels and oak even a smidgen of chocolate sneaks in. Finish is customary biting the dust oak and cinnamon with fruity suggestions that wait. I like the enormous conveyance of barrel quality whiskeys yet this at 90 pf hits a sweet spot. I feel its somewhat overrated ( 38$ at Absolute wine) however agreeable enough I may purchase once more. Im a sum OF fanboy so bring that into account............89/100........lotsa yummy flavor with hearty oak and sooooo simple to drink.....Think of Woodford with more barrel pop

Tasting Notes

Nose

Very bright and lively with its fruity and floral notes at the forefront. Underneath, vanilla and caramel provide the base and a delightful amount of oak is mixed in.

Taste

This a bourbon that actually tastes like it smells. It’s a delightful mingling of vibrant fruit flavors. The sweetness from the caramel and an agreeable amount of oak makes this an easy to enjoy bourbon.

Finish

Despite a light body and thin mouthfeel, it has a really nice finish. As the sweetness trails off it finishes with cinnamon, nutmeg and a mix of other baking spices. A light amount of oak can also be tasted throughout the finish and helps provide a lasting aftertaste.
