Islay scotch masters, Laphroaig Distillery, released a small number of bottles of their 16 year old Single Malt scotch whiskey back in 2015. Due to the overwhelmingly favorable response from fine whiskey drinkers the world over, they’ve decided to offer another opportunity to experience this mellow expression of their traditional malt. A combination of oak richness and vanilla along with hues of leather greet the senses with a first whiff of this pure whiskey. The palate awakens to the taste of treacle over caramel twists with a tide of deeply sweet Manuka honey. A parade of baking spices along with hints of thyme and creosote hazed with smoke soon follow and gather at the door of rich bergamot spice and chili heat. This 16 year old Single Malt scotch whiskey finishes long, but not long enough, as you roll your tongue to savor the flavors until the very last swish and slow swallow.…
