The first scotch whisky released in the Orphan Barrel collection comes from a little know and very short lived Islay distillery called Pittyvaich. In fact, the whisky was actually in the barrel 8 years longer than its distillery was in existence! Pittyvaich closed its doors in 1993, marking the Forager’s Keep release as some of the last barrels they ever distilled. Maybe if they’d known what a lovely product it would be at 26 years old, perhaps they might have remained in business longer. Available in tiny quantities in select stores only. The nose has some caramelized malt notes coconut and orange strip. This has an extremely brilliant flavor - it's overflowing with wood zest there's pepper yet considerably more than that there is heaps of dried ground ginger and that waits from start to long completion. It's excessively fiery yet is as hot as can be without going too far. There is some wood in the body and finish however it's far less woody than I was expecting following 26 years in a barrel. I can shockingly still get some charming malty grain notes. This is likewise very sleek and has a hearty rich body behind it. This is something exceptional I'd suggest getting a jug in the event that you can discover it without an over the top markup.

Solid whisky notes not as smooth as I was anticipating. As I would see it not worth the cost. Much better alternatives out there.
