This barrel strength bourbon is raw and uncut striking a perfect harmony of brown sugar, spice and fruit notes. This second batch of Bulleit Bourbon Barrel Strength is crafted from a mash of corn, rye and malted barley. After the grains are harvested, they are mashed and fermented with a unique strain of family yeast. Following fermentation, the wash is distilled through a copper still before being matured in charred, American oak casks for six to eight years. not a world mixer however entirely charming. heaps of in advance and superb over the tongue dim syrupiness pushed through by the higher verification. the completion falls somewhat level however including a shape or several drops of water brings the get done with thundering through.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Vanilla and caramel notes interweave with stronger blasts of pepper and cinnamon. It’s a pleasant mixture of sweet and spice that has some strength to it, yet doesn't come off as too strong. Minor notes of butterscotch and custard pop up, but do little to add much complexity.

Taste

Lots of cinnamon and spice. It's a straightforward palate that merely intensifies what you may love or hate about the standard Bulleit Bourbon. It’s once again very peppery and oaky, but surprisingly not as overbearing as what I thought an additional 29 proof points might do to the standard version. Working the bourbon around in your mouth pulls out some minor fruit notes that would have otherwise remained unknown. It’s not an earth shattering discovery, but an enjoyable bright spot in an otherwise ho-hum experience.

Finish

Straightforward and consistent: starts hot, develops some creaminess, and finishes dry. The finish lacks much flavor besides plentiful notes of oak and spice, which is to be expected coming from a barrel strength version of the standard Bulleit Bourbon. The extra proof points have done little to pull out additional flavors from the standard version and instead simply make it hotter and amplify the spicier notes. It’s marginally enjoyable but still not all that interesting.
