Brodir Port Wood Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ml
Launched in 2014 as a European Travel Exclusive and bottled at 48%, this NAS (No Age Statement Laphroaig) follows on from other successful duty free only bottlings including Laphroaig QA Cask, PX Cask and Laphroaig An Cuan Mór. The first Laphroaig Brodir 13 year old was introduced in 2012 at the Viking Line Whisky Fair. The whisky is matured in ex-Bourbon barrels followed by a second maturation in European oak casks seasoned with Ruby Port. The combination doesn't always fire, however in this case, the peat and sweet fortified wine are reported to have worked extremely well. Brodir means ‘brother’ in ancient Norse. This label celebrates Scotland’s connection with the Nordic region and culture.

Laphroaig tasting evening Sydney 26 September 18. Bourbon #6. Nose: Rose and nectar. Raisins stewed in port and liquor - a weighty and full smell. Wine‚ solid port wine practically like port wine jam. The smoke takes a secondary lounge yet its there good similar to a trace of the trademark Laphroaig iodine yet its impeded. There is a profound musky note touched with oak sitting behind everything. Sense of taste: smooth appearance. Raisins and smoke in plenitude strawberry compote blackberry jam orange syrup rancio. A fairly thick surface however not slick. Its flavourful yet on the braggadocio side and graceless. Finish: Medium. The smoke perseveres in the completion. Its a strikingly sweet nose and the port completion clouds the smoke from the outset. Peat-smell is available in any case as an amazing establishment and once it begins to unfurl it continues coming. Not at all like numerous smoky whiskies there is no hint of a plastic-peat note on this by any means. On the main tasting I discovered this whisky pleasantly sweet well disposed and simple to drink yet with each progressive nose and taste it turned out to be less captivating. Something about the profile simply doesn't speak to me and before the finish of the measure I was over it. I cant envision ever purchasing a jug especially given the cost. There was a port-completed Cairdeas a couple of yeas back that was outstanding‚" sporty adjusted and complex. This appears to be a less equipped adaptation of that. It is all around made yet only not to my sense of taste. Good : 3.5 stars"
