A rare version of Macallan's 25 year old Sherry oak. Released for a short time in this beautiful red wooden box. The Macallan Anniversary Malt is a series of sherry matured malts first released in the early 1980s. Each bottling comes from a single year's distillation which is then matured for over 25 years. Starting with 1957 the series covers most distillation years up to 1975. Non-vintage expressions were also bottled, as well as 'double vintages', (for instance The Macallan 1958/1959).…

This bourbon really is a bit of history. I was trusting that an exceptional event will drink it and it ended up being an ordinary night at the house. The nose pits off sweet fiery citrus from the start with a little vanilla and some other natural product. Include water and the nose opens up with substantial raisins and oats. The sense of taste was chewy and fruity with most notes of raisins and slight fiery wood and vanilla. The completion was very smooth and the chewy sweet raisin-oats remained.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Very fruity, with notes of orange and pear on the nose. Also has a good dollop of sweet spices which develop into an almost smoky character. The sherry on the nose is refined and well balanced, with hints of honey and caramel.

Taste

Textbook malt delivery which gives way to a mouthful of dried apricots, prunes and figs. Hints of nutmeg and cinnamon weave in and out of an epic whack of honey that only a Speyside distillery of this kind of nobility can produce.

Finish

A long, full finish that carries fig, spices, chewy oak and a touch of light smoke.
