The follow-up to the massively popular toasted barrel finish bourbon – this time, Michter's has created a limited-edition rye, bottled at cask strength. This Kentucky straight rye is made by taking Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Rye at barrel strength and finishing it in a secondary barrel. These finishing barrels are made from 24 month air-dried staves. The barrels were toasted, not charred. As the rye whiskey is bottled at cask strength, the proof will vary. Tasting Notes

Nose

Cinnamon buns (with icing), oily walnut, cardamom seed and sticky brown sugar caramelising in a pan.

Taste

Nutty at first, with almond and hazelnut, shortly followed by nutmeg, honeycomb and just a pinch of BBQ smoke.

Finish

Rum-soaked dates, drying oak-y spice and dark chocolate.
