Very Special 20 Year Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey 375ml
A collector's bottling, made from a blend of twelve barrels of wheated whiskey from the mythical Stitzel-Weller distillery, from the same wheated mashbill that Pappy Van Winkle developed for Old Fitz at Stitzel-Weller. Aged for twenty years - a remarkable degree of maturity for any American whiskey, three thousand 375ml bottles were produced. We have one only from a private collection. The cube shaped decanters are decorated with a gold and platinum key graphic, which hearkens back to the Larceny logo and commemorates Fitzgerald’s role as the treasury agent who held the keys to the warehouse. The bottles have an ornate satin finish metal closure with a cork, and a strip stamp on the neck and the face label both prominently feature the 20 Year old age statement. In addition, each bottle comes packed inside a handmade wooden box with die-cut keyholes and hinged doors that close with magnets.

About the brand
Revealed in a family biography of Pappy Van Winkle, John E. Fitzgerald was not actually the man he has always been portrayed as. He was in fact a bonded treasury agent, who at the time were the only people legally allowed to carry the keys to the barrel storage rickhouses. Mr. Fitzgerald apparently had a particularly discerning palate for fine Bourbon, and would use his rickhouse keys to gain access to the best barrels, which eventually became known around the distillery as “Fitzgerald barrels”. Herbst, and then Pappy, immortalized the man who had both the keys and the fine taste by naming the brand Old Fitzgerald. Now Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon honors both the superb taste of this lawless treasury agent and the legacy of the Old Fitzgerald brand. Larceny Kentucky Straight Bourbon has its origins in the long and colorful history of John E. Fitzgerald and the Old Fitzgerald brand. According to lore, John E. Fitzgerald built a distillery on the banks of the Kentucky River in the 1870s and sold his fine Bourbon to rail lines, steamships, and private clubs. The Old Fitzgerald brand was first registered in the 1880s by S.C. Herbst, and was eventually sold to Julian P. “Pappy” Van Winkle during Prohibition. Pappy moved production of Old Fitz to his distillery where it became the first great wheated Bourbon and eventually one of the most famous Bourbon brands in the world.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Cherry heavy dark fruit, wood and spice flow from the glass like aromatic velvet. Complex notes of dark sweets, candied citrus and a touch of something lightly herbaceous. The nose is incredible
Taste
Almost a complete 180 from the nose, the palate is weak and unsatisfying. Light ethereal notes of cherry heavy dark fruit, spice and wood paired with odd notes of tart green fruit and minerals.
Finish
Short and light in its delivery of dark fruit, grain and wet wood.
